⁣Taurine, also known as β-aminoethanesulfonic acid, was first isolated from bezoar, hence its name. Appearance is colorless or white oblique crystals, odorless, chemically stable, soluble in organic solvents such as ether.

Taurine is a sulfur-containing non-protein amino acid that exists in a free state in the body and does not participate in protein biosynthesis in the body. Although taurine is not involved in protein synthesis, it is closely related to the metabolism of cystine and cysteine.

Taurine is widely used in the pharmaceutical industry, food industry, detergent industry and the production of optical brighteners. It is also used in other organic synthesis and biochemical reagents.
