Although edible glucose and industrial glucose have the same chemical composition (both are C ₆ H ₁ ₂ O ₆), they have essential differences in raw materials, purity, hygiene standards, and uses. Edible glucose is made from food grade raw materials (such as corn starch), which have undergone strict refining and sterilization treatment, with a purity of ≥ 99.5%, in compliance with food safety standards (such as GB/T 20880), and is used in food, medicine, and health products; Industrial glucose may contain harmful impurities such as heavy metals and sulfides, with low purity (70%~95%), and is only used in sewage treatment, chemical or construction fields. It is absolutely inedible and misuse may lead to poisoning or health risks. The two have similar appearances and need to be distinguished by packaging labeling (such as SC license) or testing reports.
